Eight questions to ask a money packet supplier in Malaysia

A good money packet supplier in Malaysia can tell you who prints your order, the minimum per design, the paper weight and finish, what the quote includes, when the lead time starts, what the proof checks, how much colour drift is allowed, and what happens if the batch arrives wrong. Vague answers mean keep looking.

We call this the Paper, Price, Proof check. Paper is question 3. Price is questions 2 and 4. Proof is questions 6 and 7. Three more questions are about the supplier itself: who prints (question 1), when the lead time starts (question 5) and what happens if the batch arrives wrong (question 8).

We print money packets for a living, so we are not neutral. Where a question has a Gifthxs answer, we give it, so you can hold it up against any other quote.

1. Who actually prints this, and where?

Some suppliers own presses. Some are traders who send your artwork to a factory and add a margin. Some import finished packets and print nothing locally. None of this is automatically bad, but it changes who you call when something goes wrong, and how fast a fix can happen.

Whether you call them a red packet supplier or a money packet printer, ask plainly: "Is the printing done in Malaysia, and is it your own range or someone else's?" Gifthxs prints its own range in Malaysia. If a supplier hesitates, request the name of the printing company on the delivery order, then check that the company is real. Any registered Malaysian company can be looked up on the SSM e-info portal.

2. What is the money packet minimum order, and is it per design?

Most ang pow printing quotes start with the minimum. For our packets the minimum is 500 pieces per design. Two designs means 500 of each, 1,000 pieces in total. "From 500" elsewhere can mean 500 in total, 500 per design, or 500 in one pack size.

The second part of the question is what happens above the minimum. Our price steps run from 500 to 5,000 pieces on single and two-design orders, and bigger quantities go through a quote. If you are weighing 500 against 1,000, our post on why our MOQ is 500 pieces explains what the minimum does to the unit price.

3. What exact paper, and what exact finish?

Get the gsm and the finish by name. Our custom money packets are 157gsm art paper with a soft-touch lamination, a velvety matte surface, included at no extra cost. Check whether the lamination is in the price or an add-on, because that is where low quotes grow once the extras are added.

The optional finishes change both the look and the quote. Spot UV is a glossy raised coating on chosen parts of the design, and it costs less than foil. Gold or silver hot stamping is metallic foil and is the most luxurious option. A premium box is a 250gsm card box that holds the packets. For a longer look at why we settled on this paper, read why we print on 157gsm art paper with a soft-touch finish.

4. What is in the price, and what is extra?

The quote should have the finish, the delivery and the packing written on it. Our own single-design prices at 500 pieces show how much the answer can move:

Single design, 500 pieces Price
No finishing RM 488
Spot UV RM 688
Gold or silver stamping RM 728

The RM 488 starting price is a no-finishing price, and any supplier quoting a "from" figure should be able to tell you which finish it assumes. Delivery is free to West Malaysia. Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan orders carry a delivery add-on, which at 500 pieces is RM 60, and our checkout adds it automatically before you pay.

The extras buyers forget are logo tracing if your file is a JPG or PNG, Pantone matching, and a premium box. Free customisation of the back panel, with your logo, contact details or a QR code, is included in our price.

The full set of numbers lives on our money packet printing Malaysia page, and you should be able to find the same level of detail on any supplier's page before you ever request a quote.

5. When does the lead time start counting?

Our lead time is 10 to 14 working days, counted from the day you approve the artwork. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays, and the four weeks before each festival are the busiest of the year.

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February. Confirm artwork between 12 and 26 December 2026 and you are inside the 6 to 8 week window we recommend. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected around 10 March 2027, 32 days after Chinese New Year. Rush orders are available on request with no fixed rush fee, and we confirm feasibility case by case. Ask any supplier for the same in writing, along with what they need from you to hit the date.

6. What does the proof check, and how many revisions do I get?

The proof is free, online and typically sent within about one working day. It checks placement, such as where the logo and text sit. It does not check colour accuracy.

How many rounds of changes are included? We include three. File format matters too: we prefer AI or SVG, which keep logo edges sharp at print size. If you only have a JPG, expect to pay a small fee for it to be traced to vector.

7. How much colour difference is acceptable?

A printed colour will not match your screen exactly, so find out how far it may drift before the supplier calls it acceptable. The tolerances in our terms are up to 5% colour deviation from the digital proof, up to 3mm size deviation and up to 2mm variance in the cutting position. Foil and spot UV registration can vary by up to 0.5mm.

If a supplier states no tolerance, you have nothing to point to if the colour or cut is off.

If your logo colour is strict, ask about Pantone printing. It costs extra here. The same Pantone colour looks different on coated and uncoated stock, as the Pantone Formula Guide shows side by side, so request a swatch on paper close to what you are ordering.

8. What happens if the batch arrives wrong?

We accept returns for manufacturing defects or damaged items, with a full refund or a free reprint. You report it within 7 days of receipt, with photos and your order number. Cancellation is not possible once an order has been processed, and changes may be possible only if printing has not started.

A reprint should be at the supplier's cost, so ask who pays for it. Payment terms belong here too. We take 100% payment to start production, with 70% upfront and 30% on delivery available to corporate accounts by arrangement, if you email in advance. Payment is by online banking (FPX) only.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for money packets in Malaysia?

At Gifthxs it is 500 pieces per design. Two designs means 500 of each, and single-design packets with no finishing start at RM 488. Other suppliers set their own minimums, so confirm whether theirs is per design or in total.

How long does money packet printing take?

Our lead time is 10 to 14 working days from artwork approval. Count working days, not calendar days, and allow for public holidays. For Chinese New Year on 6 February 2027, confirm artwork between 12 and 26 December 2026.

Does the proof check my colours?

No. Our free online proof checks placement only: logo position and text. Colour can deviate by up to 5% from the digital proof, and Pantone matching is available for an extra cost.

What file format should I send my logo in?

AI or SVG files are preferred because they stay sharp at print size. A JPG or PNG logo can be traced to vector for a small additional fee.
